Un claro ejemplo de como guerras de paises externos (URSS-USA) y la religión, pueden sumir a un pais en la miseria absoluta.

Parece que Afganistan era un pais moderno para la epoca y zona geográfica, fue el primer pais asiatico en introducir a la mujer en el parlamento y las mujeres disfrutaban de libertad, iban en minifalda por la calle y la atmosfera era europea.
Los talibanes (muyaidines) estaban en la oposición y fueron financiados por los EEUU para desestabilizar a los Rusos. Cuando estos tomaron el poder degradaron a la mujer hasta el 0 absoluto, burka, prohibiciones de todo tipo etc...
En 1965 tuvieron lugar las primeras elecciones para el parlamento.
En 1973 un golpe de Estado derribó la monarquía y proclamó la república. Cinco años más tarde se instaló un gobierno comunista, pero la actividad de la guerrilla islámica, provocó la intervención soviética que sólo terminaría en 1989 gracias a influencias externas. Entonces continuó la guerra civil y en 1996 el movimiento talibán tomo el poder de Kabul e instauró un gobierno basado en la Sharia. En 2001 una coalición comandada por Estados Unidos invadió el país derrocando a su gobernante Mohammad Omar e instaurando un nuevo regimen
En la actualidad no se ha conseguido estabilizar el país, que se encuentra inmerso en una situación de guerra constante desde el 7 de octubre de 2001.

In the l970's, many women began to attire themselves in Western clothing. Women were being educated in universities and working as representatives in government. In l973, the monarchy was overthrown by Muhammad Daud who declared himself president. He was overthrown, in l978, by leftist military officers. The new president was Noor Muhammad Taraki, and his lieutenant Hafizullah Amin became Prime Minister.
A revolutionary program that included land reform and the emancipation of women began. These reforms were intolerable for traditionalists and armed revolt was instigated by the mullahs and tribal leaders. In l979, Prime Minister Amin created a reign of terror by arresting and killing opponents and took over rule of Afghanistan while Tarik was off in Moscow, only to return to be executed by Amin. The rebels controlled most of rural Afghanistan by the summer of '79, and Amin refused to abide Soviet directives to moderate his policies. The Soviet Union invaded on December 25, l979.
The next decade was fraught with violence and destruction, but it was during this time that women's rights reached their pinnacle in Afghanistan's history: 50% of teachers, government employees and students were women, and 40% of doctors were women. When the Soviet Union left in l989, the nation fell into chaos, and women's rights quickly eroded. By 1992, the beginning of civil war, women were precluded from public service, and by 1994 women were only seen in public in the burqa.

Just another reminder of what happens to a country once dominated by Islam. It transforms from a somewhat happy and secure land into a barbaric Islamic cesspool of subjugation, torture, death and destruction
